We use PDO lifting threads since 2 years. During this time we treated 254 patients, 92 % women and 8 % men. The indications were face-lifts (n = 135, 53 %), neck-lifts (n = 83, 33 %) and body-lifts (n = 36, 14 %).

The great advantage of the PDO lifting threads is that they are absorbable. The polydioxanon is broken into water and carbon dioxide within 4 – 6 months and is absorbed by the skin. In place of PDO new collagen and elastin fibres are generated and this is the reason for a longer lasting result. Depending on the age of the patient and the level of metabolic activity of the cells of the skin the final result is seen after 12 – 24 months.

Contraindications are inflammation of the skin in the treated area, keloid scars tendency and neurotic and psychological disorders.

We use 3 types of threads: Plain threads, spiral threads with a large stimulating effect and cogs threads with an anchor effect. Depending on the treatment we combine these 3 types or only use one type of threads. The best lifting effect is seen by combining cogs threads with plain or spiral threads. And we also combine the PDO threads with hyaluronic acid, botox and PRP. They complement one another. The procedure is done under local anesthesia or with emla creme.
By using cogs sometimes a swelling of the skin at the end of the thread can be seen for up to 2 weeks. A mild swelling and littlt haematomas can be seen immediately after the treatment.
Conclusion: The PDO lfting threads are a useful tool in aesthetic medicine and do not compete with hyaluronic acid, botox or PRP. The PDO threads cause a mild lifting effect of the face and the neck or a mild contouring effect of the body.
