Liposuction of the Female breast in a human cadaver: Anatomical Findings

Background: We have demonstrated that liposuction of the female breast using Tumescent Local Anesthesia (TLA) and Powered Cannulas (PC) is a safe and effective treatment modality. One of the main characteristics of the results is the lifting of the breast together with the volume reduction.
Objective: To investigate the influence of Liposuction on the integrity of the fibrous structures.
Methods: Infiltration of the breast was done using tap water, a pressure pump and a needle. In one breast 4000 mL was infiltrated. Suction was performed using a powered cannula. Dissection of the Breast was performed paying attention that the fibrous structures stayed intact.
Results and Conclusion: Performing liposuction of the female breast in a human cadaver using Tumescence and a powered cannula has demonstrated the preservation of the subcutaneous fibrous network. This is probably a major factor to explain the preservation of the original shape and the lifting effect of the breast that is seen in the living patient after liposuction using TLA and PC.
